Take 5–10 sub-samples in a W or grid pattern across the test zone. Combine and mix to form a composite. Use clean, dry tools and labelled bags. Avoid cross-contamination between locations.

Run the Field Test
Prepare extract per kit SOP (soil:water ratio specified per parameter). Add reagent tablet, drop, or strip. Follow timed reaction steps. Read result from meter display or colour comparator card.
Step 03
Record & Act
Compare result against reference ranges. Log in field data sheet or digital log. Take corrective action immediately if required. Send borderline or critical samples to Cleanflo lab for NABL confirmatory testing.

⚠ Sampling Best Practice Tips

Composite sampling: Collect 5–10 sub-samples in a W-pattern or grid; mix well before testing.
Depth: Sample at the relevant depth (e.g., 0–15 cm for topsoil, 0–30 cm for subsoil depending on purpose).
Cross-contamination: Use clean tools between each sampling point; dry before reuse.
Timing: Avoid sampling immediately after irrigation, rainfall, or fertiliser application — allow 48–72 hrs for representative results.
Labelling: Record GPS coordinates, depth, date, sampler name, and test objective on every sample bag.

Storage & Shelf Life

Store reagents in a cool, dry location (15–25°C), away from direct sunlight and heat. Moisture-sensitive strips must be resealed immediately after use. Check expiry on every reagent pack before use. Typical shelf life: 6–18 months from manufacture date. Do not store kits in vehicle glove boxes or direct sun.

PPE & Safety Notes

Wear nitrile gloves when handling reagents. Use safety goggles with any acid or oxidising reagents. Heavy metal screening vials may contain reagents hazardous on contact — refer to the SDS supplied with each kit. Work in ventilated areas. Keep reagents away from food and children. Wash hands after testing.

Calibration & QC

Calibrate pH meters at the start of each session with 2-point buffer solutions (pH 4.0 and 7.0). EC meters require a conductivity standard calibration check weekly or when temperature changes significantly. Run a positive control standard each testing session. Log all calibration data in the field record. Recalibrate if drift exceeds ±0.3 pH or ±5% EC.

Reagent Disposal

Dispose of spent colorimetric solutions by diluting with large volumes of water and neutralising to pH 6–9 before draining to a permitted outlet. Heavy metal screening vials and strips must be collected as chemical waste per CPCB/SPCB guidelines — do not dispose to open drain. Consult site EHS officer for site-specific disposal requirements.

Chain-of-custody: Label samples clearly with site name, sample ID, GPS coordinates, depth, date, time, sampler name, and parameters required. Use Cleanflo sample submission forms for traceability. Samples should be sealed in appropriate containers and stored cool until dispatch.
